UCR Córdoba internal leadership dispute

The Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) in Córdoba has moved toward internal elections scheduled for September 20 to select a new head for the Provincial Committee, following a failure to reach a consensus agreement to replace Marcos Ferrer.

The deadlock originated from irreconcilable differences regarding the distribution of seats within the Provincial Congress, a body responsible for defining party strategy and electoral alliances for the 2027 elections. The opposition sought a higher number of representatives based on prior agreements, which the current leadership rejected.

Two primary factions have registered candidates for the leadership. The officialist group, Generación X, has nominated provincial legislator Matías Gvozdenovich. This faction receives support from figures such as Rodrigo De Loredo and Marcos Ferrer, with Miguel Nicolás heading the officialist list in the capital. The opposition bloc, Más Radicalismo, has presented former Río Cuarto mayor Juan Jure, with Cristina Giorcelli and Franco Jular as running mates. In the capital, the opposition is represented by Pablo Farías, the current president of the Capital Committee.

As the electoral board reviews documentation to certify the lists, the conflict has expanded to include legal challenges. Former National Committee president Ramón Mestre has filed a lawsuit with the Electoral Justice of Córdoba, questioning the validity of the party’s internal processes. Mestre’s legal action cites alleged irregularities in the voter registry and polling station distribution, seeking to suspend the proclamation of new authorities. Representatives for the officialist list have dismissed these claims, asserting the elections were conducted normally.
