In September 2026, Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church addressed the crisis, emphasizing the need to view the Ukrainian people as a ‘global, transnational community.’ Discussions focused on the necessity of creating conditions to encourage the voluntary return of emigrants and the importance of preventing the total assimilation of Ukrainians living abroad through cultural and parish ties.
