After its high‑profile opening, Universal’s Epic Universe in Orlando has been grappling with guest frustration caused by frequent ride delays and temporary shutdowns in Super Nintendo World, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and other lands. In response, the park filed a permit for a 71,500‑square‑foot structure on the Dark Universe land, signaling a sizable new attraction.

In early July the company rolled out additional Express Pass options, including the on‑app “Express Now,” and announced its first permanent nighttime show, “Universal Celestial Goodnight.” The Cosmos Fountain, the park’s original 15‑minute nighttime attraction, performed its final show on July 6, 2026 and was retired. The following night, July 7, the expanded “Universal Celestial Goodnight” debuted, featuring a 10‑minute spectacle with hundreds of fountains, nearly 600 lighting fixtures, millions of LEDs and fireworks, staged on the lagoon in Celestial Park beneath the Helios Grand Hotel.

October saw the launch of “Universal Nights at Epic Universe,” the park’s first separately ticketed after‑hours event, adding a new revenue stream and extending evening offerings. Analysts note persistent gaps versus Disney: limited rides for young children, strict height limits, inadequate accommodations for plus‑size guests, sparse shade, and capacity pressures as crowds grow. Continued investment in family‑friendly attractions, accessibility, shaded seating and throughput will be key to narrowing the competitive gap.
