The department proceeded with this formal rescission without a public notice and comment period, stating that doing so would be “contrary to the public interest.”

In a recent White House speech, President Trump reiterated his stance on transgender issues, specifically targeting the participation of transgender women in female sports. The reversion to 2020 standards also introduces a more limited definition of sexual harassment and different due process protections for accused students.
