Ushuaia disability center construction project

Overview

The Municipality of Ushuaia has issued a pre-adjudication decree for land designated for the construction of the Centro de Actividades Alternativas para Personas con Discapacidad (CAAD). Mayor Walter Vuoto delivered the document to CAAD Director Fernanda Gaillard and the institution’s management team, facilitating the cooperative’s ability to seek financing and coordinate funding with local residents and businesses.

Construction has officially commenced on the new permanent headquarters. Yésica Fourastié, president of the Cooperative, noted that while the process will be “long and difficult,” the presence of machinery on-site represents the realization of a major dream. The project is being spearheaded by the CAAD cooperative through contributions from various sectors.

The move to a dedicated facility is intended to address significant limitations at the institution’s current location, which suffers from lack of space, accessibility issues, and problems with gas and water services. The CAAD currently serves 180 students with a staff of 70 teachers, but maintains a waiting list due to existing capacity constraints.
