UTRGV women's soccer season progression

Overview

The UTRGV women’s soccer season commenced with a scheduled home opener against the Texas Southern University Tigers in Edinburg, Texas. The team, led by new head coach Nataki Stewart, was also slated to face the Texas State Bobcats following the initial matchup.

Following the start of the season, the Vaqueros secured their first victory, defeating the Prairie View A&M Panthers 4-0. This result marked the first NCAA Division I win for coach Stewart, with Isabella Burtin contributing two goals and one assist. Other scorers in the match included Sienna Gillespie and Erika Parker.

Continuing their momentum, the Vaqueros secured a 1-0 road victory against the Tarleton State Texans in Stephenville, Texas. Senior Libby Pole scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute, assisted by junior Isabella Burtini. Despite being outshot 19-5, the Vaqueros maintained a shutout thanks to goalkeeper Mariana Amezcua, who recorded a career-high eight saves to earn her first clean sheet with the program.

However, the team's winning streak ended in a 4-2 loss to Sam Houston. Although Isabella Burtini scored two goals during the match, the Bearkats secured the victory with late scoring in the second half.

Following the loss to Sam Houston, the Vaqueros were scheduled to host the UTEP Miners and the Concordia Tornados in Edinburg, Texas.

In their Southland Conference opener, UTRGV suffered a 1-0 defeat against Lamar University. The match remained scoreless until the final nine seconds of the game, when Kamryn Harvey scored for the Cardinals. Despite the loss, goalkeeper Mariana Amezcua recorded six saves, and players Isabella Burtini and Anuhea Aalona both recorded shots on frame late in the second half.
