Uttar Pradesh commemorative honors for freedom fighters
Overview
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been conducting commemorative activities to honor historical figures from India’s independence movement.
On the 196th birth anniversary of Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi, the Chief Minister recognized her role in the 1857 struggle, noting her sacrifice at age 27. To honor her legacy, the state government announced the establishment of a new female Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion named after her in Badaun, alongside similar units named after Uda Devi Pasi in Lucknow and Jhalkari Bai Kori in Gorakhpur. The Chief Minister stated these initiatives aim to ensure the safety and empowerment of women.
Following this, the Chief Minister observed the 91st martyrdom anniversary of freedom fighter Gulab Singh Lodhi. To preserve Lodhi’s legacy, the Uttar Pradesh government has named a park, a health center, and a police training college in the Unnao district after him.
More recently, Adityanath paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant on his 139th birth anniversary. The Chief Minister honored Pant’s contributions to the independence movement, specifically his legal defense of revolutionaries after the 1925 Kakori train action. Adityanath also recognized Pant’s historical role as the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1947, citing his work in land reform, economic advancement, and social welfare.
