Vehicle attacks and assaults in Germany

Overview

In early August 2026, Berlin experienced a series of vehicle-related attacks. An unlicensed 38-year-old driver struck an 80-year-old cyclist in Berlin-Rudow before fleeing; police subsequently seized his vehicle and obtained a court order for a blood sample. Later that evening, a white car drove onto a pathway in Tiergarten park, hitting pedestrians and causing several injuries, some of which were life-threatening. By the following week, investigations expanded to include violent incidents in Bremen and additional attacks in Berlin. In Bremen-Neustadt, a 56-year-old man died following a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical assault by a driver. The suspect, described as a man approximately 55 years old with short gray hair, allegedly exited his vehicle and struck the man in the face multiple times, causing him to fall and hit his head. The suspect fled the scene in a white compact car, and a homicide commission is conducting a manhunt. In Berlin-Altglienicke, a 47-year-old suspect, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and without a license, used both a hammer and a vehicle to attack two men, aged 22 and 29, during a group conflict. The suspect allegedly struck the men with a hammer before driving into them on a sidewalk. One of the victims sustained serious injuries. Authorities have detained three suspects, all reportedly under the influence of alcohol, while the primary suspect remains in custody. Additionally, a 30-year-old man, identified as Kamal C., was fatally shot on a street near the Zoologischer Garten station in Berlin-Charlottenburg following a dispute at Hardenbergplatz. Investigators from the homicide commission searched an apartment in Friedrichshain and seized a gray Audi S8 linked to the scene. The victim had previous convictions related to drug trafficking, and authorities are investigating potential links to organized crime clans.
