Venezuela and Ecuador Women's World Cup qualification
Overview
Following the CONMEBOL Women’s Nations League, Venezuela and Ecuador have secured paths toward the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027. Venezuela secured a spot in the playoff Final Phase scheduled for February 2027, while Ecuador must compete in a Preliminary Phase between late November and early December 2026 to advance. In preparation for these qualifying playoffs, the Venezuelan women’s national team, La Vinotinto, has scheduled friendly matches against Colombia for October 10 and 13 at the Centro Nacional de Alto Rendimiento (CNAR) in Margarita. Under head coach Ricardo Belli, the Venezuelan Football Federation announced a 25-player squad featuring international talent such as Deyna Castellanos (Tigres UANL), Ailing Herrera (Madrid CF), and Mariana Speckmaier (Heart of Midlothian). Belli emphasized that these matches are essential for tactical and physical preparation despite Colombia currently playing at a higher level. Colombia, led by coach Angelo Marsiglia, is also using these fixtures as preparation for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil. The Colombian squad includes players such as Luisa Agudelo, Ana María Guzmán, Daniela Garavito, and Manuela Pavi, though star player Linda Caicedo is absent from the call-up. In the first of two scheduled friendly matches held behind closed doors at the CNAR, Colombia defeated Venezuela 1-0. The match was decided in the 66th minute by a goal from Ingrid Guerra. Despite the absence of key players such as Linda Caicedo, Mayra Ramírez, and Leicy Santos, Colombia secured the victory. Venezuela utilized high pressure and offensive efforts from players like Deyna Castellanos, but was unable to overcome the Colombian defense. In the second match of the series, Colombia secured a 2-1 victory, with goals from Manuela Vanegas and Gabriela Rodríguez, while Enyerliannys Higuera scored for Venezuela.
