Venture Global LNG commercial and financial expansion
Overview
Venture Global LNG has expanded its financial and commercial operations through new credit facilities and long-term supply agreements. In early September, the company secured a $3 billion, 364-day senior secured revolving credit facility intended for general corporate purposes and to finance project costs for the CP2 and Plaquemines bolt-on expansions. By late September, the company reported securing several major long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreements. This includes a 20-year contract signed on September 14 with China Gas Holdings to supply 0.5 million tonnes of LNG annually starting in 2030. This agreement brings China Gas Holdings’ total long-term commitment from Venture Global to 2.5 million tonnes per year. Additionally, the company highlighted a 20-year agreement for 1 million tonnes of LNG per year starting in 2030 through Atlantic SEE LNG Trade, a joint venture between AKTOR Group and DEPA Marketing. These contracts aim to provide energy security at pre-crisis prices despite ongoing trade tensions and a 15% Chinese tariff on US LNG. In October, Venture Global announced a 20-year Sale and Purchase Agreement with ConocoPhillips for 1 million metric tons per annum of LNG, with deliveries starting in 2030. CEO Mike Sabel noted the partnership reflects market confidence in providing “reliable, low-cost American LNG at scale.” This follows a recent arbitration victory against Shell, where the company was ruled not to have breached contractual obligations to long-term customers. In Cameron, Louisiana, the company is expanding its operations. While the first phase, Calcasieu Pass 1 (CP1), is currently operational, construction is underway for the second phase, CP2, which is expected to be more than 2.5 times the size of the initial plant.
