Vietnam airport expansion projects

Overview

Vietnam’s Airports Corporation continues to push forward its airport and transport upgrades. After outlining a VND 12 trillion expansion of Cam Ranh International Airport in late July 2026, the focus has shifted to the Cà Mau Airport upgrade and the My An‑Cao Lanh highway.

The Cà Mau project, valued at about VND 2.4 trillion and built by the 470th Construction Corps and Trường Sơn Construction Corporation, is on schedule for a 1 November 2026 reopening. Final works include runway resurfacing, taxiway and apron construction, drainage, fencing and a new passenger terminal. Calibration flights are planned for September 2026, and when operational the airport will replace ATR‑72 turboprops with Airbus A321 jets on the Cà Mau–Ho Chi Minh City route, with a possible service to Hanoi under review. The upgrade will raise capacity to one million passengers and 1,000 tonnes of cargo annually, with a long‑term target of three million passengers by 2050.

Meanwhile, the first phase of the My An‑Cao Lanh highway in Đồng Tháp province is being accelerated. Contractors have mobilised hundreds of engineers and about 240 pieces of equipment, completing more than 25 % of the contract value by the end of July 2026. Eighteen bridges are under construction, and key works such as pile‑driving, concrete production and road‑base preparation are progressing, aiming to finish 4–5 months ahead of schedule and improve Mekong Delta connectivity.
