Vietnam environmental and maritime protection initiatives

Vietnam is implementing various environmental and maritime protection strategies focused on long-term sustainability. The government has outlined a national blue carbon roadmap through 2030, which prioritizes policy governance, ecosystem restoration, and the establishment of technical standards to facilitate investment and resource mobilization.

Complementing these national frameworks, regional and organizational initiatives are underway to protect local ecosystems. In Gia Lai province, programs have been launched to promote waste management and pesticide safety. Additionally, Economic - Defense Group 75 has established cooperation and friendship agreements with several communes in Gia Lai, including Ia Krel, Duc Co, Ia Dok, and Ia O. This partnership seeks to coordinate national defense, security, and socio-economic development through poverty reduction, infrastructure development, and vocational training for local residents and ethnic minorities.

Maritime efforts continue through the ‘Green Journey - Connecting Seas and Islands’ program for the 2026–2030 period. Launched by the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 3 in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross and the Ho Chi Minh City Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment, the initiative aims to protect maritime sovereignty, preserve marine ecosystems, and support fishermen. The program emphasizes legal enforcement to maintain peace and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing practices.
