Vietnam health product regulatory crackdown
Overview
In late July 2026, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade oversaw the destruction of 75,937 boxes of Eherbal detox vegetable powder, valued at VND 2.66 trillion, at the URENCO 11 waste-treatment facility in Hưng Yên. The action followed a joint inspection finding quality violations in a batch produced in December 2025. The company was fined VND 580 million and ordered to return over VND 3.28 trillion in illicit revenue. The product had been heavily promoted by actor-influencer Hữu Công and his wife since 2023; Hữu Công stated the non-conforming batch was withdrawn and pledged cooperation with authorities.
A week later, the Vietnam Drug Administration imposed administrative fines of VND 25 million on four pharmaceutical firms—Nam Ha Pharmaceutical, Domesco Import-Export Medical, Minh Dan Pharmaceutical, and Agimexpharm Pharmaceutical—for failing to declare or misdeclaring the prices of essential medicines, such as antibiotics and other critical treatments. These penalties were issued under Decree No. 114/2026 to increase price transparency and protect patients.
By late August, the National Competition Commission of Vietnam expanded its enforcement, fining Vitamia Natural Health Solutions 200 million VND for unfair competition involving unverified claims about Kangen alkaline water ionizers. Additionally, Total Swiss Vietnam Co., Ltd. was fined 710 million VND for multiple violations related to multi-level marketing (MLM), including failing to provide contracts, appointing unqualified trainers, and exceeding legal limits on commissions.
Together, these actions illustrate a broader push by Vietnamese regulators to tighten oversight of health-related products, dietary supplements, and marketing practices to ensure consumer safety and market integrity.
