The controversy began on 26 July 2026 when a short TikTok livestream from Duc Giang General Hospital showed two fourth‑year medical students in nursing attire using profanity and threatening to “inject poison”. The clip sparked public outrage. Renowned physician Dr Nguyễn Thanh Sang urged a public apology, a suspension of social‑media activity and stricter rules on recording clinical work. The university responded by suspending the two students and beginning a policy review.

On 31 July 2026 the university’s disciplinary council voted unanimously to impose a one‑academic‑year suspension, lowering the students’ conduct scores. Vice Director Nguyen Van Long stressed that the conduct breached professional ethics and the moral standards the institution must teach. The hospital reiterated that the pair were interns, not staff, and announced a review of its supervision of trainees.
