Water leakage and infrastructure issues in Aswan
Overview
In Aswan, Governor Amr Lashin has launched investigations into water leakage affecting residential areas and public infrastructure. In the Nag El-Sayeh area of the Edfu district, leakage has caused structural cracks in homes, prompting the formation of a technical committee including consultants from Aswan University to identify the source and survey damaged properties.
Additionally, officials are addressing rising water levels at Banban North Primary School in the Daraw district. Authorities are analyzing water samples to determine if the issue stems from groundwater or the sewage network, while also conducting safety inspections of the school’s electrical connections.
Following field inspections, including exploratory wells and soil sampling in the Al-Basiliya area, a technical committee identified that the lack of a formal sewage network, the use of non-compliant septic tanks, and the clay-based nature of the soil contributed to water accumulation in the Al-Zama Mahammadia area. While the local water and sanitation company reported no leaks in main street pipelines, the committee recommended replacing non-compliant internal connections and performing regular maintenance on septic tanks. The proposed permanent solution is the expedited completion of the sewage network for Al-Basiliya, including Nag' al-Sayeh, to resolve the issue fundamentally.
