Western Sydney International Airport passenger launch prep

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is finalizing preparations to commence passenger services on 25 October. Designed to handle up to 10 million passengers annually, the facility provides a 24-hour alternative to the curfew-restricted Kingsford Smith Airport. Confirmed airlines include Qantas, Jetstar, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Vietjet, and Fiji Airways, with the latter scheduled to launch Nadi flights in March 2027.

To facilitate passenger arrival, the airport has announced a partnership with Uber, featuring a dedicated 10-bay pick-up zone. Public transport connectivity includes the WSI Link, a free shuttle bus service running between St Marys train station and the airport every 30 minutes.

As the airport approaches its opening, new details regarding private transport options have been released. Privately operated Super Shuttle electric buses will provide direct links to Parramatta, Central Station, and Kingsford Smith Airport. Adult one-way fares for the Super Shuttle to Central Station are $55, while a trip to Kingsford Smith Airport via the CBD will cost $65. A direct service to the Parramatta CBD is priced at $25. Travel times for these services range from 30 to 75 minutes.

Due to the delay of the multibillion-dollar metro rail line until at least December next year, the NSW government will maintain free bus services every 30 minutes between the airport terminal and St Marys. From St Marys, passengers can transfer to double-deck trains to reach Central Station, with peak period adult fares costing $8.28.

Earlier operational milestones include the July 24 launch of the 733,000 square meter cargo precinct and the arrival of Siemens Mobility metro trains for the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line.
