XRP Ledger technical upgrades and performance milestones
Overview
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has recently undergone technical developments focused on throughput and transaction efficiency. In mid-September, the network set a new record by validating up to 3,254 transactions in a single block, a surge likely driven by throughput testing following the activation of the fixCleanup3_3_0 amendment.
Development has since focused on the Batch V1.1 upgrade, based on the XLS-56 standard. This feature allows up to eight transactions to be grouped into a single atomic operation, enabling simultaneous settlement of linked asset and payment transfers. To mitigate risks of incomplete trades, the upgrade includes an ‘ALLORNOTHING’ execution mode, ensuring that either all transactions in a batch succeed or none are reflected. This capability has attracted interest from asset managers and commercial projects looking to manage complex payment flows.
As of early October, the BatchV1_1 amendment is targeting an activation date of October 9. Activation requires maintaining at least 80% validator support for 14 consecutive days; as of October 3, approximately 85.7% of tracked trusted validators (30 out of 35) supported the update.
In conjunction with the Batch upgrade, a separate security amendment, fixBatchV1_2, is approaching activation to bolster transaction security. Server operators have been advised to update to xrpld version 3.4.1 to ensure network synchronization and avoid connectivity issues once the security fix is live. While the Batch feature facilitates grouped operations, transaction fees remain determined by the specific composition of the transactions.
