Overview

In hematology, the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) approved reimbursement for blinatumomab as a first-line treatment for adult patients with newly diagnosed Philadelphia-negative B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a move that could increase three-year survival rates to over 80%. This immunotherapy works by creating a direct link between T-lymphocytes and tumor cells to facilitate their destruction. Recent discussions in Rome have also focused on creating an integrated model for accessing innovative therapies for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), particularly for forms involving the FLT3+ mutation. This model aims to strengthen molecular diagnostics and ensure uniform access to specialized care networks.
