South African state enterprise Denel showcased various assets, including the Rooivalk attack helicopter, missiles, uncrewed aerial vehicles, and the Badger infantry fighting vehicle. Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Angie Motshekga emphasized a roadmap for localization and sovereign capability to ensure South Africa can design, manufacture, and sustain its own defense technologies. Following the general exhibition, the Brazilian defense industry, coordinated by the Brazilian Association of Defense and Security Material Industries (ABIMDE) and supported by ApexBrasil, concluded its participation at the AAD event. The Brazilian pavilion hosted delegations from Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Lesotho, and Botswana, showcasing ammunition, aeronautical maintenance, and unmanned systems. ABIMDE officials noted the event helped strengthen “South-South cooperation” and increase visibility for Brazilian technical capabilities. However, the sector faces significant economic and strategic headwinds.
