Alzheimer’s Association fundraising walks

Overview

The Alzheimer’s Association is conducting its Walk to End Alzheimer’s initiatives across several U.S. states to raise funds and awareness for the disease.

In late September, the organization scheduled upcoming events in Florida and Minnesota, including a walk at Cocoa Riverfront Park and another at Lake George in St. Cloud. Fundraising successes were reported in Moore County, where over 1,200 participants raised more than $271,000, and the Maine Chapter announced seven scheduled walks featuring the ‘Promise Garden ceremony’.

By early October, community events continued across the country. In Duluth, Minnesota, participants gathered at the DECC and walked through Canal Park and downtown to foster community connection and reduce stigma. In Raleigh, North Carolina, nearly 2,000 people participated in a walk to honor loved ones. Local officials highlighted the scale of the disease in North Carolina, noting that approximately 211,000 individuals aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s, supported by roughly 388,000 caregivers.

Recent updates highlight upcoming events in mid-to-late October. In Columbia, Missouri, a walk is scheduled for October 17 at Stephens Lake Park, with organizers aiming to raise approximately $195,000 after securing more than $39,000. In Olean, New York, an annual walk is set for a Saturday morning at the Jamestown Community College campus for residents of Cattaraugus and Allegany counties. Additionally, the Utica/Rome walk is scheduled for October 17 at the Mohawk Valley Community College Utica campus.

Looking further ahead, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s – RVA in Richmond, Virginia, is scheduled for November 7 at City Stadium. Sponsored by Genworth and CareScout, this event aims to raise $1.2 million and will include the ‘Promise Garden ceremony’.
