Argentina municipalities expand LED upgrades

Overview

In early July 2026 Argentine towns began installing LED streetlights as part of broader municipal projects, notably 9 de Julio’s portal to La Majadita, where 84 new LEDs were mounted, and Cipolletti’s two‑lane bridge in the Michi Michi area.

By mid‑July the rollout accelerated. Rada Tilly announced a historic 77‑block paving programme, new bike lanes, expanded plazas and a wastewater‑treatment plant upgrade together with the replacement of about 500 LED lights. Pilar released a step‑by‑step guide for residents to report potholes and broken fixtures. San Juan de Sabinas completed LED installations in the Zaragoza neighbourhood, while Venado Tuerto finished full retrofits in two housing complexes. Neuquén’s Gran Avenida entered its final phase with the first streetlights installed, promising smoother traffic flow.

Later in July, La Banda inaugurated a 30‑LED luminaire corridor along Alem Street, installing modern fixtures over 600 m and adding new support columns and rewired cabling. Olavarría opened a tender to replace Avenida Eva Perón lighting with 72 LED fixtures, including 33 reinforced‑glass columns, 66 high‑power LEDs, a 14‑m tower and underground wiring, at a budget of roughly 260 million pesos.

In early August, Córdoba’s La Hortensia neighbourhood launched a large‑scale LED upgrade: 91 wooden poles, 3,530 m of pre‑joined cable and two protection panels were installed, funded with more than 37 billion pesos. Parallel LED‑lighting projects were also reported in Chile and Spain, underscoring a regional push to modernise urban infrastructure, improve public safety and cut energy consumption.
