Artistic and ceramic cultural initiatives in Faenza
Overview
In August 2026, several artistic and cultural initiatives were launched in the Faenza and Brisighella regions of Italy, focusing on ceramics, memory, and landscape.
The RELANDART European project introduced ‘SEDIMENTI’, a series of workshops and installations running from August to October 2026. This initiative uses ceramics and theatrical storytelling to process the collective memory of floods that occurred in May 2023 and September 2024. The project includes land art installations using recycled materials and clay, alongside theatrical workshops exploring resilience.
Concurrently, the Argillà Italia international ceramics festival was scheduled for September 2026 in Faenza. The ninth edition of the festival is currently underway, organized by MIC Faenza and the Municipality of Faenza. The event brings together ceramicists and technical operators from more than 30 countries, featuring over 250 exhibitors and more than 90 activities, including exhibitions, workshops, and conferences.
A central highlight is the 37th Mondial Tornianti, organized by the Mondial Tornianti Gino Geminiani Association. This competition features master potters competing in aesthetic and technical categories, including a blindfolded performance titled ‘Io, il tornio e lo scuro’, where participants recreate the shape of a vase through touch alone. Educational workshops in wheel throwing, decoration, and modeling are concentrated in Piazza Nenni.
Additionally, the International Museum of Ceramics (MIC) continues to host Giorgia Severi’s exhibition ‘Losing Cultural Landscapes’, which uses casts to document the changing natural ecosystems of the Romagna region. Other art displays are also being held at the Galleria Comunale della Molinella.
