Australian gold exploration and operational developments
Overview
Late‑July 2026 saw a cascade of encouraging results across junior gold projects in Western Australia and New South Wales. Auric Mining confirmed a positive scoping study for re‑establishing its Burbanks processing plant and restarting the Munda deposit, targeting 600,000 t /yr throughput and reporting a starter‑pit grade of 1.84 g/t Au at US$7,178/oz. Encounter Resources disclosed shallow copper‑gold mineralisation over a 1.2 km zone at its Elsa prospect, while Terrain Minerals released a maiden 54,000‑oz Au resource for the Lightning project. Patronus Resources highlighted high‑grade hits at the Tally Ho deposit, including 3.17 m at 3.32 g/t Au 150 m below the historic pit, underscoring deep‑extension potential. Further drilling at Medallion Metals’ Gem deposit (Ravensthorpe) returned grades such as 4.92 m at 15.5 g/t Au and 0.9% Cu, supporting possible mine‑life extensions. Ballard Mining’s West Knell drilling at Mt Ida traced a 1.4 km mineralised corridor, with 9 m at 27.1 g/t Au reinforcing the case for a standalone operation. Ora Banda Mining reported expanded intercepts at the Little Gem prospect—18 m at 3.4 g/t and 13 m at 3.2 g/t—extending the known strike to over 2.6 km and paving the way for a maiden resource later this year. In mid-August, the sector saw further expansion through acquisitions and regulatory approvals. Meeka Metals acquired three gold deposits near Mt Holland in Western Australia—Blue Vein, Bushpig, and Razorback—for $20 million plus shares, adding a 71km² exploration package. Meanwhile, in New South Wales, Aurelia Metals’ subsidiary, Peak Gold Mines, received approval to increase processing throughput at its Peak operation from 800,000 to 1.2 million tonnes per annum. By late August, exploration and infrastructure momentum continued. Meeka Metals identified visible gold 300 meters below its Turnberry underground resource in the Murchison region, intersecting a broad shear zone.
