Beşiktaş goalkeeper roster overhaul and Nübel's strong start

Overview

During June and July 2026, Beşiktaş overhauled its goalkeeping roster. Following transfer negotiations between Beşiktaş and Bayern Munich, the Turkish club completed the signing of Alexander Nübel on a three-year contract through 2029. Nübel made his debut for Beşiktaş on 23 July in a Europa League second-qualifying round match against FC Midtjylland, keeping a clean sheet in a 1–0 away victory. His performance, including a decisive 79th-minute save, earned praise from coach Vincenzo Italiano.

By early August 2026, Nübel maintained his strong form, recording three consecutive clean sheets in competitive appearances against FC Midtjylland and FC Hradec Kralove. Turkish media and fans have responded enthusiastically to his performances. Former goalkeeper coach Vatroslav Mihacic highlighted that Nübel's ability to use both feet effectively provides a tactical advantage in modern buildup play and transitions, while his composure under pressure continues to offer defensive stability.
