Overview

In late July 2026, 28‑year‑old Russian visitor Lyudmila Turkova Konstantinova vanished in Belgrade after arriving for a two‑week holiday. Surveillance footage captured her entering a rented apartment in the Borča neighbourhood with a 25‑year‑old Turkish citizen identified only as K. E. Within about 85 minutes the suspect left the flat carrying a large suitcase, allegedly after strangling Turkova with a piece of clothing, placing her body in the suitcase and discarding it in the Vizelj canal near Padinska Skela.

A police‑trained dog, Aki, located the suitcase, and Turkova’s body was recovered on 31 July, five days after her final message to her mother. K. E. was intercepted at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport on 30 July while attempting to board a flight to Istanbul and was placed in police detention. The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered up to 48 hours of detention and is seeking pre‑trial custody, with a court authorising custody for up to 30 days pending further investigation. K. E. denies the charge. The investigation remains ongoing.
