São Paulo FC wins first Brasileirão Feminino title

Overview

São Paulo FC secured its first Campeonato Brasileiro Feminino A1 title following a 1-1 draw against Corinthians at the Morumbis stadium on October 3, 2026. After winning the first leg 2-1 at the Neo Química Arena—a match that ended Corinthians’ 32-match unbeaten home streak—São Paulo maintained a 3-2 aggregate victory, effectively ending Corinthians’ six-year period of dominance in the competition.

Bia Menezes scored for São Paulo in the 10th minute, while Juliete equalized for Corinthians in the 18th minute after a mistake by goalkeeper Carlinha. Carlinha later redeemed herself by saving a penalty from Gabi Zanotti to preserve the draw. The match established a new South American attendance record for women’s club football, with 49,405 spectators in attendance.

While this victory is noted as the first under the current competition format established in 2013, historical records indicate São Paulo also won the inaugural national championship in 1997. This title also guarantees São Paulo a spot in the 2027 Libertadores Feminina.

Following the loss, Corinthians has faced significant institutional and financial challenges. While the club has settled outstanding image rights and salaries for its women's squad, management is still working to secure funds for contractual bonuses, prize money, and installments related to the 2025 Copa Libertadores Femenina. Head coach Emily Lima has criticized the “institutional uncertainty,” noting that financial instability and a lack of information create insecurity for players and staff. Additionally, the club is currently navigating three active transfer bans from FIFA, which restricts its ability to register new players.
