Brazil hosts major scientific conferences 2026
Entities: Universidade Federal Fluminense · Andrea Macedo · Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC) · Ana Tereza Ribeiro de Vasconcelos · Niterói
Overview
In July 2026 Brazil announced a series of high‑profile scientific gatherings in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area.
The 81st Brazilian Congress of Cardiology will be held at Rio’s Riocentro convention centre from 8‑10 October, drawing about 16 000 cardiology professionals.
From 26 July to 1 August the Universidade Federal Fluminense in Niterói hosted the 78th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC). Organisers expect roughly 50 000 participants, 500 speakers from 23 states and more than 250 activities across 20 thematic tracks covering artificial intelligence, rare‑earth exploration, food security, sustainability and health. The meeting was billed as the largest scientific gathering in Latin America and included cultural presentations, exhibitions and free public access. The theme “Science for all: sovereignty, development and inclusion” was chosen by SBPC director Ana Tereza Ribeiro de Vasconcelos.
From 23‑26 September the Associação Paulista de Medicina – Regional São José do Rio Preto staged the 25th Congresso Médico do Oeste Paulista – CardioStroke in Rio Preto, focusing on neuro‑cardiovascular integration, stroke therapies, neuro‑intervention, anticoagulation and rehabilitation.
Together, these events aim to boost tourism, showcase Brazil’s scientific capacity and promote inclusive, interdisciplinary dialogue across health, technology and environmental research.
