Cadillac Formula 1 leadership and personnel changes
Overview
The Cadillac Formula 1 team is undergoing significant leadership and personnel changes during its inaugural 2026 season. Following a period of struggle where the team remained the only entry without a championship point after 11 rounds, the organization replaced Team Principal Graeme Lowdon with engineer Marcin Budkowski. Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss characterized this as a “planned leadership transition” and an “inflection point” intended to shift focus from construction to racing performance.
Budkowski, an engineer with over two decades of experience at teams including Ferrari, McLaren, and Alpine, stated his priority will be aligning personnel and information flows to improve car performance. While the team currently utilizes Ferrari power units, Budkowski noted, “We are happy with the relationship with Ferrari, and the PU is competitive.” This comes amid the manufacturer's long-term ambition to develop its own proprietary power units.
Shortly after this change, the team experienced further departures, including the resignation of Shyam Rajdev, who served as the head of content and lead photographer. As the team prepares for the resumption of the championship at the Dutch Grand Prix, Team Manager Peter Crolla has highlighted the “immense logistical and operational challenges” of building a competitive team from the ground up.
Driver Valtteri Bottas described Lowdon’s departure as more substantial than anticipated, noting Lowdon’s massive contribution to getting the team onto the grid, but agreed that “something needed to change” to address technical struggles. Meanwhile, Sergio Pérez has dismissed rumors of a departure, stating his intention to remain with Cadillac “long-term.” On the track, Bottas has recently shown a resurgence, securing four consecutive weekend advantages over Pérez following the introduction of an upgrade package featuring a new floor and sidepod design.
