CFMOTO motorcycle market expansion and racing ambitions

Overview

CFMOTO has expanded its presence in Asian markets through the launch of new motorcycle models. In Japan, the company introduced the 1000MT-X adventure motorcycle, a high-performance model featuring a 946.2cc engine designed for touring and off-road use. While the model has been noted for its cost-performance ratio, some Japanese consumers have expressed skepticism regarding the reliability of Chinese-manufactured brands compared to domestic manufacturers. In Vietnam, Rebel Motor launched the 450CL-C AMT cruiser. This mid-range model distinguishes itself with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) system that automates clutch and shifting operations, offering a riding experience similar to a scooter while maintaining motorcycle performance.

To bolster its global technological standing, CFMOTO has announced plans to enter the MotoGP championship. This racing ambition is supported by the construction of a new research and development center in Rimini, Italy, which is intended to strengthen the company’s motorsport capabilities and technical expertise.

Following the market success of the 450MT—which reportedly sold over 2,300 units in Italy in 2025 and ranked in the top 10 for that year—the company is developing the 550MT adventure model. While early leaks suggested a 526cc engine, newer reports indicate a displacement of approximately 549 cm³ utilizing a parallel twin engine with a 270-degree phase. To comply with European A2 license regulations, the output may be limited to approximately 44 CV, though the unrestricted version could exceed 50 CV. Expected upgrades for the 550MT include improved low-end torque, a steel trellis frame, KYB adjustable suspensions, and enhanced touring features such as a reinforced rear subframe, denser seat padding, and a curved TFT display with T-Box connectivity for over-the-air updates.
