Chinese electric vehicle market expansion

Overview

Chinese automotive manufacturers are expanding their electric and hybrid vehicle offerings through new model launches and technological updates.

In mid-August 2026, Changan expanded its international presence by launching the Eado Plus PHEV pre-sale in Argentina. Distributed by Grupo Antelo, Grupo Tagle, or CityDrive, the sedan is priced at USD 29,990. It features a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, a 212 HP electric motor, and an 18.4 kWh LFP battery providing up to 132 km of electric-only autonomy. The model includes iDD technology, a triple-clutch transmission, and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package.

Concurrently, BYD’s premium brand, Denza, announced the N8 SUV, which features battery capacities up to 130 kWh and an electric range of up to 1,003 km under the CLTC cycle. BYD is also expanding its infrastructure in South America, planning to deploy Flash Charging technology in Argentina, with Brazil positioned as the regional pioneer for its supercharger network. The company aims to establish 300 fast chargers in strategic South American corridors by 2026.

Following these moves, Geely and BYD announced domestic updates in China. Geely updated its Xingyuan lineup with improved CATL battery capacities, offering ranges up to 480 km, and enhanced multimedia via the Flyme Auto 2 system. BYD introduced an entry-level version of the Fang Cheng Bao Ti 3 SUV, priced at approximately US$ 21,325, featuring a 65.3 kWh Blade LFP battery and rapid charging via MWh chargers.

By September 2026, data indicated a significant shift in the Argentine market. In August, brands linked to Chinese groups accounted for 10.8% of operations, rising to 15.6% when including Chinese-manufactured models. Electrified vehicle operations in Argentina grew approximately 2,000% compared to the previous twelve-month period.
