Chinese EV brands expansion into Europe
Overview
At the 2026 Paris Motor Show, Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers announced strategic expansions into the European market. AITO, a luxury brand under the SERES Group supported by Huawei, announced plans to enter the European market in autumn 2027. Clifford Kang, Vice President of SERES Group, confirmed this timeline during the event. The brand showcased four SUV models—the AITO 6, 7, 8, and the flagship AITO 9—built on the SERES MF Platform, which supports battery electric, range-extended, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. To facilitate this entry, AITO is pursuing EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval and aiming for a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
To support its European expansion, AITO announced a strategic shift from its current reliance on Huawei technology to a partnership with Bosch. This new initiative, termed ‘Bosch Inside’, is intended to replace the existing ‘Huawei Inside’ framework. Bosch will provide critical technologies, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), intelligent cockpits, and chassis electronics management. Bosch is also expected to support Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) technology for Level 2 and Level 2+ autonomy starting next year. This transition is driven by Huawei’s reduced involvement, brand positioning, and the necessity to navigate European Union regulations. Utilizing Bosch is expected to simplify compliance with local standards and increase consumer trust in Europe.
In a similar move, Li Auto announced it will launch its first models in Europe next spring, beginning in Norway and the Netherlands. The 2026 Paris Motor Show further highlighted this shift, with the number of Chinese brands at the event doubling to twenty over the last two years.
