CineFest Miskolc concludes with award announcements

Overview

The 22nd CineFest Miskolc International Film Festival has concluded in Miskolc, Hungary, following a program of approximately 90 films and 156 screenings. The event saw record attendance, with over 12,000 tickets sold across its expanded facilities, which included the addition of a new 300-seat screening hall.

The festival’s top honor, the Pressburger Imre Award, was presented to ‘Too Many Beasts’ (L’espèce explosive), the debut feature by French director Sarah Arnold, which was noted for its exploration of class differences and corruption. Gábor Reisz received the festival’s Grand Prize, the Zukor Adolf Award, for his film ‘Ground Level’ (Földszint), described by jurors as a satire regarding political change in Hungary.

Other major award recipients include:

• Faraz Shariat: ‘Prosecution’ (Staatsschutz) earned both the FIPRESCI Prize and the International Ecumenical Jury Prize. • Valeska Grisebach: V4+ award for ‘The Dreamed Adventure’ (Das geträumte Abenteuer). • Pierre Salvadori: Fantasma award for ‘The Electric Kiss’ (La Vénus électrique). • Frank Gutiérrez: CineDocs award for ‘The Silence of the Earth’ (El Silencio de la Tierra).

The festival previously opened with honors for actor Sándor Gáspár, who received the CineFest Lifetime Achievement Award, and director Danis Tanović, who was named a European Cinema Ambassador.
