Cyberattacks targeting Polish infrastructure and services

Overview

Poland has faced a series of cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure and digital services. In late July 2026, the Central Office for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) confirmed that Russian citizens involved in organized cybercrime breached a hospital building-management system in Sanok. The attackers altered ventilation settings to a maximum of 28 °C, though no damage to medical equipment or patient safety was reported.

By August 10, 2026, the scale of digital threats expanded to include social security and large-scale medical data. A volumetric DDoS attack targeted the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), paralyzing its website and the PUE/eZUS platform for approximately three hours. Concurrently, the medical documentation platform MyDr reported potential unauthorized access. While the Ministry of Digitalization has not confirmed a full-scale leak, hackers claim to have stolen approximately 18.8 million unique PESEL numbers, medical histories, and prescription data.
