Czech cities Advent and Christmas preparations

Various Czech cities are organizing programs and decorations for the upcoming Advent and Christmas season.

In Písek, preparations include a light tunnel, a Friday advent cinema, a New Year’s concert, and a Christmas train. The town square will host holiday markets with rotating vendors managed by REMA living, allowing local entrepreneurs to change goods weekly. A free ice rink on the Great Square is scheduled to open on November 29 following installation on November 12.

In Karviná, the municipality has invested approximately 1.5 million CZK in new decorations, including 90 light snowflakes for public lighting poles. Lighting will also be expanded near the magistrate building, the historic center, and St. Mark’s Church. Christmas trees are expected to arrive on November 14.

In Kroměříž, the traditional lighting ceremony on Velké náměstí has been rescheduled to November 29 to coincide with the opening of the ‘Šťastné a veselé’ Christmas market. The event will feature folklore groups, a St. Nicholas show, and a concert by Petr Bende.

Liberec will begin its festive season on November 20 with a Christmas tree lighting in front of the town hall, featuring a performance by O’Band. The Advent program includes musical acts such as Verona and Hitfakers, alongside caroling and workshops at Dr. E. Beneš Square and Soukenné náměstí.

In Brno, Christmas markets are set to begin on November 13 at Zelný trh, Moravské náměstí, parts of náměstí Svobody, and Kapucínské náměstí. The festivities will include over 160 stalls, a Ferris wheel, and performances by artists such as Lucie and Žlutý pes. Additionally, in Šlapanice, the Real Estate Administration is seeking donations of large coniferous trees from residents to be used as Christmas trees in Bedřichovice.
