Czech political party shifts and membership trends
Overview
The Czech political landscape continues to undergo shifts in party support and membership. Recent Median polling shows the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) at approximately 12 percent, trailing the ANO movement at 34 percent and the Mayors and Independents (STAN) movement at 15 percent. Commentator Daniel Kroupa has criticized ODS chairman Martin Kupka for a lack of strong political themes, suggesting Kupka step down in favor of a new leader, such as former Justice Minister Eva Decroix, to revitalize the party.
Membership trends show a general decline in political engagement. While KDU-ČSL maintains around 17,000 members and the Communist Party has 15,000, TOP 09 has seen significant decreases, falling below 2,000 members. Notably, despite high polling numbers, the ANO movement reports only approximately 3,000 members.
New election modeling from Kantar indicates further shifts. ANO leads with 30.5 percent of the vote, a four-point decrease from previous results. Political scientist Vladimíra Dvořáková observed that while the decline is not necessarily dramatic, the stagnation suggests ANO is maintaining its level rather than growing. STAN is noted as the only former coalition party showing growth, while Starostové and ODS follow in second and third place.
