Delhi Police immigration enforcement operations
Overview
Delhi Police have conducted a series of enforcement actions under “Operation VISTA 1.0” (Visa Status Verification) to identify foreign nationals residing in the capital without legal permission.
On 5 August, authorities arrested 11 Bangladeshi citizens in the Paharganj and Malviya Nagar areas for overstaying their double-entry visas. The operation, supervised by ACP Padam Singh Rana, resulted in the seizure of passports and travel documents for legal processing.
On 14 August, the operation continued with the apprehension of two Bangladeshi nationals, MD Anharul Islam Sourob Khan and Tarikul Islam Sujan, at a hotel in the Nabi Karim area. Although their passports were valid, they had exceeded the 15-day stay limit permitted by their visas. Both individuals were referred to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for legal proceedings.
On 22 August, the Delhi Police Outer District intensified verification efforts, tracing 18 foreign nationals residing in the district after the expiration of their travel documents. This group included nine Thai nationals, four Nigerians, three Bangladeshis, one Ugandan, and one Guinean national. During this phase, police intercepted three Bangladeshi nationals near Peeragarhi Chowk and DDA Park following intelligence that they were attempting to relocate to avoid detection. Led by Inspector Sunder Singh and the Outer District Foreigner Cell, the operation has initiated deportation proceedings in coordination with the FRRO.
On 6 September, the enforcement drive expanded to the Uttam Nagar area, where Dwarka District DCP Kushal Pal Singh directed the apprehension of two Ugandan women, Doreen Ampurire and Gorret Adong. Following an interrogation where they failed to produce authorized residency papers, police initiated deportation proceedings. The operation utilized technical surveillance and human intelligence to identify individuals without valid documentation or those with registered criminal cases.
