Derek Kutesa transfer negotiations

Swiss winger Derek Kutesa was initially reported to be transferring from AEK Athens back to the Swiss club Servette. The deal was expected to be a profitable move for AEK, with reports suggesting a sale price of approximately 2 million euros for the player, who had previously joined the Greek side on a free transfer.

However, the transfer process subsequently stalled. Despite Kutesa passing medical examinations in Geneva, negotiations reached a standstill when no contract was ready for signature. Servette’s sporting director, John Williams, indicated that the club needs to re-evaluate the proposal, specifically seeking to reduce the transfer fee from approximately €1 million to €500,000. The club is also reportedly proposing a three-year contract instead of a previously discussed long-term deal.

Kutesa’s agent, Paul Bollentorf, expressed surprise at the sudden complications, noting that the club had initiated contact and procedures appeared to be progressing normally. Amidst these complications, AEK Athens coach Marco Nikolić suggested Kutesa might remain with the Greek club if the transfer fails, while FC Sion has also expressed interest in the player.

Recent developments have seen tensions rise between the clubs. Servette sporting director John Williams expressed frustration, accusing AEK Athens of a lack of respect. Williams noted that a minor issue during Kutesa’s medical examinations led Servette to modify negotiation terms to align with their original agreement. While an agreement has been reached with the 28-year-old player, Servette is awaiting a response to a revised proposal sent 48 hours ago. Williams criticized AEK’s stance, stating, “AEK cannot insist that things remain as they are now, because this was not part of the agreement we had negotiated,” and added that the club should not be treated like a “milking cow.”
