Dodge Charger lineup and electric vehicle developments

Overview

Dodge has officially ended production of its gas-powered Challenger and Charger models, marking a strategic transition from internal combustion engines toward electric performance. This shift follows tightening emissions regulations, Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, and a broader electrification strategy by parent company Stellantis.

To bridge this transition and retain enthusiasts, Dodge is introducing the 2026 Charger Sixpack. This model features a twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six engine, producing 420 horsepower in the R/T trim and 550 horsepower in the Scat Pack. The Sixpack is designed to offer authentic engine sound and mechanical performance, including both all-wheel drive and a selectable rear-wheel drive mode.

This development complements the existing eighth-generation Charger lineup, which includes the electric Charger Daytona EV. While the Daytona EV base R/T variant is capable of 500 horsepower (software-locked unless upgraded to the Scat Pack trim), the Sixpack provides a transitional combustion option. In Europe, the Charger remains available through importer KW Automotive, offering various configurations for both the Sixpack and Daytona models.

Recent reports suggest the potential reintroduction of a high-performance Charger variant featuring a 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat engine. While Stellantis has confirmed the return of the HEMI V8 engine as part of its strategy through 2030, the company has not officially linked the V8 to a specific new Charger SRT model. If produced, a 6.2-liter supercharged variant could begin as early as late 2027, though CAFE standards may limit production to approximately 12,000 units annually to manage fleet fuel economy averages.
