Educational infrastructure development in Africa

Overview

Various African nations are implementing projects to expand educational infrastructure and improve accessibility for students. In the Republic of the Congo, new facilities have been inaugurated in Ngolonga and Bouansa to allow children to study closer to home. In Ngolonga, a new building with four classrooms was unveiled, though community leaders noted a continued need for teacher housing and administrative blocks. In Bouansa, the community received its first general high school, featuring eight classrooms with a capacity for over 400 students.

Expansion efforts in the Republic of the Congo have continued with the Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC) announcing the development of two new school complexes in Brazzaville: the L’Amitié complex in Bacongo and the Angola Libre complex in Makélékélé. These facilities are expected to accommodate a combined total of 18,000 students, following an investment of over 14.3 billion FCFA in education by the SNPC since 2023. President Denis Sassou Nguesso has since inaugurated the Angola Libre school complex in Brazzaville. The 40,000 m² facility is designed to accommodate 10,000 students across preschool, primary, middle, and high school levels. The complex includes 100 classrooms, scientific laboratories, media libraries, administrative buildings, and various sports facilities.

In the Lékoumou department of Congo, Minister Jean-Luc Mouthou officially received the first general high school in Komono on September 30, 2026. Funded and equipped by local deputy Arsène Niamba, the facility includes six classrooms, an administrative block, and latrines, aiming to reduce the financial burden on parents by eliminating the need to travel to Sibiti or Dolisie. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, President Félix Tshisekedi inaugurated three new buildings at the National Pedagogical University (UPN) in Kinshasa.
