Ekiti Governor Oyebanji transition to second term
Overview
Following his victory in the June 2026 governorship election, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji prepared to resume official duties on September 7, 2026, after a two-week statutory annual leave.
As his second term approaches, beginning October 16, 2026, Governor Oyebanji has outlined economic objectives focused on boosting commerce, productivity, and sustainable business growth. During a town hall meeting in Ifaki-Ekiti, he pledged to direct strategic investments into healthcare, electricity, road infrastructure, and water supply. In preparation for his second term, he approved the dissolution of various boards and the termination of several political appointments to wind down his first term.
Preparations for the second-term inauguration are now underway, overseen by an inauguration committee led by Chief of Staff Oyeniyi Adebayo. The program is scheduled to begin with a thanksgiving service at the Central Mosque in Ado Ekiti on October 2, preceding the official ceremony on October 16.
In reviewing the administration’s progress since October 2022, the committee highlighted several milestones, including the completion of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, which commenced commercial operations in late 2025. Infrastructure developments include the commissioning of over 500 kilometers of roads and electricity extensions to the Ikogosi tourism belt and parts of Aiyekire and Ekiti East. Additionally, the administration reported the renovation of more than 110 primary healthcare centers and all general hospitals within the state, equipped with modern facilities.
