Overview

Seven Ethiopian armed and opposition groups have formed a coalition known as the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival. The alliance, which includes the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), the Amhara Fano National Movement, the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), and several other regional factions, aims to overthrow Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and establish an inclusive transitional administration.

Zemene Kassie, leader of the Amhara Fano National Movement, is designated to chair the alliance. While the coalition involves both political and military cooperation, analysts suggest that while the group may lack a single force capable of a direct march on Addis Ababa, its coordination could force government troops to defend multiple fronts simultaneously. Experts have also noted that ideological differences among members may complicate future governance.

In the wake of these developments, reports of violence have emerged. In southern Tigray, local officials stated that drone strikes hit two schools in Alamata, resulting in 14 civilian deaths and 22 injuries. Additionally, Tigrayan forces have reportedly seized control of the Alula Aba Nega International Airport in Mekelle.
