EU strengthens Greenland partnership with investment package

The development of molybdenum is projected to potentially add 90 million euros annually to the local economy.

Looking toward the long term, the EU has proposed doubling direct aid to approximately 530 million euros annually for the 2028–2034 period. This initiative serves as a strategic response to geopolitical tensions in the Arctic and territorial interests expressed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Throughout the visit, von der Leyen emphasized respect for territorial integrity, international law, and Greenland’s sovereignty within the NATO alliance to bolster Arctic security and counter the influence of other global powers. Amid these deepening ties, Prime Minister Nielsen clarified that Greenland does not seek membership in the European Union.
