FAI Autumn Days 2026 cultural heritage events

Overview

The 15th edition of the FAI (Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano) ‘Giornate FAI d’Autunno’ (FAI Autumn Days) took place on October 10 and 11, 2026. Supported by a renewed four-year partnership with Groupama Assicurazioni, the event opened over 700 extraordinary locations across 350 cities in Italy, many of which are typically inaccessible to the public.

The program, titled ‘Geographies of Beauty’, emphasized Italian craftsmanship and ‘Made in Italy’ traditions, showcasing traditional trades and manufacturing excellence alongside historical monuments such as palaces, monasteries, castles, and archaeological parks. In collaboration with organizations such as Confindustria and Museimpresa, the edition aimed to demonstrate how economic and social history is preserved within cultural heritage. The initiative featured over 75 openings specifically dedicated to these themes and was supported by approximately 9,000 student volunteers, known as ‘Apprendisti Ciceroni’, who guided visitors through various itineraries.

By the conclusion of the event, approximately 400,000 visitors had participated across the country, with the highest visitor flows recorded in the Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Piedmont regions. Despite unstable weather in central and southern Italy, Palazzo Saladini Pilastri in Ascoli Piceno emerged as the most visited location in Italy, recording over 12,000 visits to its church, East Wing, and Italian garden, which had been closed to the public for decades.

Other high-traffic sites included Palazzo Dugnani and the CityWave construction site in Milan, Villa Giorgina in Rome, and Villa La Tesoriera in Turin. Among FAI-owned properties, Villa del Balbianello was the most popular, followed by Villa Gregoriana and Villa dei Vescovi. Regional engagement remained strong, with significant attendance at the Renacavata Convent in Camerino, the Convento di Santa Maria in Castiglione delle Stiviere, and the Bari metropolitan area. In Bacoli, the event featured the reopening of the ‘Tomb of Agrippina’ and Villa Ferretti, while Villa Benveduti in Gubbio also drew large crowds.
