Federico Chiesa transfer uncertainty at Liverpool
Overview
Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool has become increasingly uncertain due to limited playing time and injury setbacks. Following his summer 2024 move from Juventus, the Italian forward has struggled to establish himself in the squad. Recent developments indicate that Chiesa was omitted from Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League squad for the league phase, a situation influenced by the club’s signing of Bradley Barcola.
By September 2026, reports from journalist Emanuele Cammaroto and Radio Punto Zero suggested that Chiesa’s entourage might propose him to several Italian clubs, specifically mentioning SSC Napoli, to revitalize his career. While Chiesa’s father has expressed a desire for the player to remain on Merseyside, the winger is reportedly seeking more consistent playing time.
As of late October 2026, Chiesa’s total statistical output at Liverpool has risen to five goals and five assists across 51 appearances, though he has played only two minutes so far this season. Interest in the winger has solidified around Inter Milan, Atalanta, Lazio, AS Roma, and Bologna. Inter Milan manager Cristi Chivu is reportedly targeting Chiesa as a primary acquisition for the winter transfer window, placing the club in ‘pole position’ for a potential deal.
However, his current salary presents a significant obstacle to a transfer. While earlier reports estimated his earnings at over 6 million euros per season, more recent figures indicate he earns approximately £160,000 per week, totaling roughly £8.3 million annually. A move to Italy may only be feasible if the player agrees to a significant wage reduction or if Liverpool opts for a loan to ensure he maintains his standing with the Italian national team.
