Fernando Botero traveling exhibitions
Entities: Fernando Botero · Sotheby's · Agrigento · Valle dei Templi · New York City
Overview
The Colombian artist’s 2026 touring program continues across Italy and the United States. In Sicily, a dual showcase opened in late July: the open‑air exhibition “L’incanto del Mito” at Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples presents 25 original works – eight bronze statues among the ancient ruins and 17 paintings, drawings and watercolors inside Villa Aurea – and runs until 31 October. A complementary display of twelve additional pieces is installed at Palermo’s Palazzo Belmonte Riso. The broader Sicilian program, organized by regional cultural authorities, features 37 works from the Botero Zea Collection and includes participation by Botero’s son Fernando Botero Zea, his nephew Fernando Botero Quintana (who also co‑curates the Agrigento show with critic Nicola Barbatelli), and Colombian ambassador Ligia Margarita Quessep Bitar.
In New York, Sotheby’s Breuer opened “Botero in New York” on 22 July, scheduled through 7 September. The exhibition, jointly organized by the Fernando Botero Foundation and Sotheby’s, displays more than 35 paintings and sculptures from the artist’s formative 1960‑1973 period, many offered for sale, marking the first solo Botero show at the Breuer venue and the first major New York presentation dedicated to a single Colombian artist.
