Fiat evaluates production for Multiplay concept

Overview

Following the unveiling of several modular concepts at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, Fiat is evaluating the possibility of bringing the Multiplay concept into serial production, potentially as early as 2029.

While the 4.45-meter vehicle was initially presented as a mobility laboratory, Fiat head Arnaud Belloni has expressed strong support for the project, stating the concept is “of exceptional importance” and has “absolute clear sense” for the company’s lineup. Belloni noted that a dedicated family vehicle remains a priority for the brand. He emphasized that while SUVs are currently popular, they often lack the interior practicality required for family life. The Multiplay aims to capture a niche market by offering a spacious interior within a compact length of less than 4.5 meters.

The Multiplay utilizes a ‘Metamorfosi’ architecture, allowing it to transition between an MPV, SUV, and a four-seat pick-up with an open cargo bed. Additional features include a ‘Petsenger’ seating unit for children or pets and a rear spoiler that doubles as a bicycle rack. Design chief François Leboine views the concept as a precursor to a ‘post-SUV’ era, emphasizing interior flexibility and practicality.

This development follows the earlier introduction of the Multipla, a compact electric four-seater expected by 2028, and the Multiplina, a 3-meter electric moped car. Fiat also continues to develop the ‘Koala’ electric model as part of its broader Stellantis strategy for affordable urban mobility.
