Fatal fire incidents and severe weather in Vietnam

Overview

A series of fire incidents has been reported across Vietnam, resulting in fatalities and significant property damage. In Hanoi, a fire at a motorcycle parts production facility in Trung Gia Commune on October 5 was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. On the evening of October 7, a fatal fire broke out at a motorcycle repair shop in La Phu village, Thuong Phuc commune. The blaze occurred in a 25-square-meter steel-framed structure. During rescue operations, authorities discovered the bodies of two men in the shop’s restroom area. Witnesses reported hearing explosions and noted the shop was tightly closed with a rolling door. In Ho Chi Minh City, an October 4 fire at an office chair manufacturing warehouse caused the collapse of the facility’s iron frame and roof. This followed a residential fire on October 3. Other incidents in the city include a fire at a vehicle business that resulted in one death and two injuries, and a fire at a workshop in Tan Hiep containing paint and chemicals. A large, 1,100 square meter workshop in the Ho Chi Minh City area, which had been previously ordered to cease operations, also caught fire, causing significant property damage. Severe weather is compounding safety risks. In Dong Nai province, water levels at the Ta Lai station are fluctuating at Alarm Level 2, posing flooding risks to low-lying areas including Dak Lua, Nam Cat Tien, Ta Lai, Thanh Son, and Phu Vinh. In Ho Chi Minh City, severe high tides have exceeded Alarm Level 3, with water levels at the Thu Dau Mot station surpassing the historic peak recorded in 2025. This flooding has submerged streets, stalled vehicles, and damaged local businesses and electronics.
