Fly2Galicia launch plans and operational scrutiny

Overview

Fly2Galicia, a brand based in Santiago de Compostela, has announced plans to launch low-cost operations starting December 1, 2026. The airline intends to use Santiago de Compostela Airport (Rosalía de Castro) as its primary base, initially offering 17 weekly flights to eight destinations: Alicante, Brussels, Granada, Milan Malpensa, Munich, Prague, Venice, and Zaragoza.

Specific flight frequencies include three weekly flights to Alicante, while other destinations will receive two flights per week. The carrier plans to utilize an Airbus A320, with potential fleet expansion slated for the 2027 summer season. In compliance with new EU regulations, initial fares include both a personal item and a cabin bag weighing up to 8 kg. Domestic fares are expected to start at €19, while international routes to Milan and Brussels will start at €39, and flights to Munich, Prague, and Venice will start at €49.

Despite these operational plans, the company remains under scrutiny regarding its business model. While marketed as a new Galician airline, legal documentation indicates that Fly2Galicia is a commercial brand owned by Aviation & Mobility Services Group, S.L., rather than an independent operator with its own Air Operator Certificate. Instead, it utilizes the Romanian airline FLYYO S.R.L. for its flight operations.

This arrangement has drawn political criticism from Movemento Sumar Galicia. Secretary general Paulo Carlos López has demanded transparency concerning FLYYO’s background, specifically following an Al Jazeera investigation. That investigation identified an aircraft registered to the Romanian company among those used in operations to transport Palestinian populations out of Gaza, suggesting potential links to intermediaries facilitating voluntary emigration from the region.
