Ford Ranger Super Duty commercial and military expansion

Overview

Ford has expanded the availability of the Ranger Super Duty, a heavy-duty pickup designed for professional and commercial use. Following its initial reveal as a 6x6 concept, the model is being introduced to Southeast Asian and European markets. In Southeast Asia, production is underway at the AutoAlliance Thailand plant, featuring Single Cab Chassis and Double Cab versions with a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel engine. In Europe, Ford Pro is positioning the model as a distinct heavy-duty category with a payload capacity of up to 1,982 kg and a towing capacity of 4,500 kg.

Ford is also pursuing military applications through a proposal to the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence for the Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) program. In collaboration with Ricardo and General Dynamics Land Systems UK, Ford is bidding to provide approximately 2,500 vehicles to replace aging Land Rover Defenders and Steyr-Puch Pinzgauers by 2030. This proposal includes a six-wheeled “HEX 6x6” variant that may utilize a hybrid powertrain, combining a 3.0L V6 turbodiesel engine with an electric third axle to enhance performance and reduce noise. Field testing for LMV candidates is scheduled between October 2026 and January 2027.

In Australia, Ford has expanded the lineup with the Super Duty XLT, an 11th variant that adds luxury features such as a leather-lined interior and heated or ventilated seats while maintaining the heavy-duty chassis and payload capabilities of the Super Duty line.
