German nationwide nursing home quality rankings
Overview
Focus Gesundheit, in collaboration with the research institute FactField, released a nationwide ranking of inpatient nursing homes in Germany to increase transparency regarding care quality. The evaluation assessed over 11,000 facilities using self-reported questionnaires and public inspection reports from the Medical Service. Based on data from May 2026, approximately 3,600 facilities were identified as top-tier institutions.
The ranking utilizes a multi-metric system: a ‘Care Score’ (assessing nursing quality, equipment, and staff qualifications), a ‘Service Score’ (covering catering and leisure), and a ‘Reputation Score’ (incorporating Google reviews). Criteria also include infrastructure, medical cooperation, and specialized services like hospice, palliative care, and physiotherapy.
Regional results highlight several high-performing areas. In Dortmund, four homes achieved a top score of 4.9 out of five. In Oberhausen, seven facilities—including Haus Marienburg, Haus Gottesdank, Vincenzhaus, ASB Pflegezentrum, Haus Abendfrieden, Haus Bronkhorstfeld, and the ASB Pflegezentrum dementia group—received ‘very good’ ratings. In Marl, three nursing homes received the highest possible ‘Top’ rating.
In Castrop-Rauxel, four homes were recognized. Altenzentrum St. Lambertus and Haus am Ginsterweg both earned overall ratings of 4.9 out of 5, with St. Lambertus achieving a maximum care score of 5.0. Haus am Ginsterweg recorded a care score of 4.7, a service score of 4.6, and a reputation score of 4.7. The neio Seniorenzentrum Helena and the AWO-Seniorenzentrum Ickern also appeared on the list with total scores of 4.5.
